Jerome Powell

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell spoke today and here were some of my biggest takeaways from his speech/Q&A:

  • Nothing is suggesting a downturn is more likely now

  • The US economy is in solid shape; 'we intend to use our tools to keep it there'

  • The recent 50bps interest rate cut shouldn’t be interpreted as a sign that future moves will be as aggressive

  • Labor conditions are solid, labor market roughly in balance

  • Fed presidents have greater confidence inflation is on a sustainable path to 2%
